Innovation in Medellin has reached a new and historic level. The capital of Antioquia was recently included in the World Economic Forum’s Network of Innovation Ecosystems, an exclusive global platform that brings together leading cities in science, technology, and development.
With this recognition, Medellin positions itself on par with global powerhouses like New York, Berlin, London, San Francisco, Boston, and Tokyo, joining a select group of only 18 cities worldwide.
Why is innovation in Medellin standing out globally?
The World Economic Forum positively assessed the city’s determined transition toward a knowledge-based economy. This is not an isolated effort but the result of sustained public policies and coordinated work between the public and private sectors, as well as academia.
Inclusion in this network aims to promote knowledge exchange and co-create solutions to major global challenges. Camilo Zapata Wills, director of Strategic Relations at Ruta N, explained that joining this platform allows the city to connect with world leaders to drive innovation with real social impact and strengthen international collaboration.
